[MERGED]
[NEEDS MORE TWEAKS YET]

  Hello,

this patch (against 2.5.59-1um) introduces hostfs support to 2.5 kernel ---
it is a mix of some ancient port from 2.5.30-um, some newer changes in 2.4 and
hours of my own debugging and figuring how the things work ;-).

This is my first real tinkering with filesystems, so I can't say I'm sure of
anything there, but it just works for me --- I've /opt (that is almost all
non-basic packages here) and /usr mounted through it (readonly, I tested
writing only at a glimpse) and I had no problems with the latest version of
this patch so far.

This is the third version of this patch, merging some more stuff from the
latest 2.4 hostfs. I hope I didn't forget anything. You can find patch against
the latest 2.4 hostfs
(http://pasky.ji.cz/~pasky/dev/kernel/uml_hostfs_CURRENT_2.4.19-50.patch) at
http://pasky.ji.cz/~pasky/dev/kernel/uml_hostfs_against_2.4.19-50.patch (diff
of arch/um/Makefile is missing there).

It survived really heavy r/o I/O activity (assembly room full of dancing
finds, greps, dds, ldconfigs, running more-or-less simultanously) without a
problem, and I hope that r/w operations shouldn't have any issues as well.
Please apply.
